The award for having the most surveillanced population was given once again to China recently at the 10th annual Meat up and Eat up barbecue of authoritarian governments from around the world. Delegates from the 53 nations involved in the group arrived Sunday to meet and chat with other delegates from other authoritarian states.
The "Authoritarian BBQ" was started in 2010 when the Chinese government first learned of the Democratic BBQ's existence, and proposed that authoritarian governments needed a barbecue meet up of their own. The AG-BBQ welcomed 2 new members this year, Belarus and the United Kingdom, and saw 49 of the total 53 delegates attend the BBQ, which was hosted in Los Angeles this year.

Each year, awards are given out to the different nations on what authoritarian government things they did best at in that year (except North Korea, which was kicked out of the award ceremony in 2013 after they won every award for the past 3 years). China received the bulk of the awards, taking home Most Surveillanced Population, Least Amount of Free Journalists, and the most Hostile Political Climate awards, closely followed by Turkmenistan with Most Censored Press and Most Authoritarian Country Ending in Stan.
